Purchasing Copic markers: Generally useful colors

I  have said all throughout the lessons that color is a personal choice. I  will have a list of my favorite colors that I use later on. However,  these are versatile colors that a lot of people use on different things.

  • Sky and water you want to go with the pale blues (B0000, BG10, or B21)
  • Pale yellows are wonderful for rich, subtle sunny backgrounds and highlights (Y0000 or Y21)
  • Pale  greys are fantastic for different things such as N0 for general  coloring, C1 or C3 for cool shadows, and W1 or W3 for more earthy  objects.
  • If  you would like to color people there are many different colors for  skin. You can find many different examples of this and the kids that you  like all over Pinterest. But generally, colors in the E family are the  best.  This also works for different hair colors as well.
  • Plants  are easy, there are two general greens, that are either bright and  springy (YG00’s) or muted and natural (G20’s, G80’s). You will also want  some browns/pale warm grays for the ground and wood tones.
  • Flowers  and blossoms you would want to choose a color family (like RV or Y) and  get at least two colors in that family. But again when it comes to  flowers it is back to personal preference as there are so many colors to  choose from.
  • Animals like bears, dogs, deer, etc, again, two browns in a color family

Most  times it helps if you have one picture you want to find colors for, and  then build your collection from there. Discuss it with friends, look at  things online with colors you like and find colors that match your  favorite stamp pads or papers and take the plunge with a couple of  colors. Remember there are no BAD colors just colors that are less  useful to you.
