Las Calaveras For Aurora Wings Challenge #66 Black & White

This week over at the Aurora Wings Challenge blog we are having our mid-challenge reminder. I had a lot of fun with this challenge as I have never done a black and white image before. I was really nervous but I am so very happy that I did it! I decided to use Las Calaveras, talk about stepping up my game for a challenge.

I loved doing challenges before but I really love them and being on this team. It really pushes me to go further with my coloring. I love that!  I also used to shy away from flowers and I find myself wanting to do them more and more now.  You still have a few weeks to get your project finished for the challenge so you will want to get your image picked and get it in... this challenge really is a lot of fun and easier than I thought it would be.

I did at first mess a few of the flowers up and couldn't get her skin right... so what do you do when that happens? Cut out the good parts you do like and pop them up on the next one you start to color to give it that 3D effect, giving it more depth. At least mistakes will look planned haha!!

I really did love going around the skull to make it look 3D. Since it is supposed to be a sugar skull I went ahead with my Wink of Stella Clear and did all the bits that looked like black design around the skull and on her face to make them stand out even more. It is really hard to capture that on camera but I hope you can see it between the photo above and the photo below.

I really loved how her eyes turned out. So I wanted to make just that part of her pop with color. I used green because I thought that would really stand out besides blue... and I always use blue, so I went a little different this time.

The Copic Markers I used are:

  • N0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

  • G12, 14, 16

  • Black Multiliner .05

The links for a fantastic deal on these markers (and they have everything copic you could ever need) are down below. I do have to let you know however, they are NOT affiliate links. A sweet couple own the shop and I grew to know and love them... so I just like to send great people, to business with great people and customer support to help support their business.

Please be sure to check out the challenge and the current happenings over at Aurora Wings Challenge Blog! You can also see what the other team members made over there too!  You don't want to miss out on anything! Their projects are so beautiful!

If you do make anything with this stamp or anything from Aurora Wings please feel free to share them with me on my facebook page or Aurora Wings Facebook Group! You would not believe the inspiration in the group! Please if you are not already in that group go and join! you are missing out for sure by not being in it!

Until next time friends!!!

  2. I'm so glad you went ahead and got out of your comfort zone and had fun, Cristena! The results speak for themselves. This turned out breathtaking in greyscale coloring, and I LOVE green for her eyes! They put anyone who looks at this card under the spell. Thank you so much for this stunning inspiration for today's mid-challenge post at AWCB! Mitzi xxx

  3. Absolutely gorgeous, Cristena! I have a soft spot for this image as it's the very first one I ever colored from Aurora Wings. Your coloring is amazing and the green eyes are just mesmerizing. Perfect choice! Love the dimension and "sugar" texture as well. Fabulous work! xxD
