Shamrock Sprite For The New Aurora Wings Challenge

This week over at the Aurora Wings Challenge blog we have a challenge that everyone always loves, Sprite Delight V. Who doesn't love coloring one of the absolutely adorable sprites from Aurora Wings?  If you don't, please don't tell me I don't think I could handle the heart break.

For my inspiration this week I am using the sweet and lovable Shamrock Sprite. I know, it is past March 17th, St. Patrick's day. But I think we could use a Shamrock Sprite any day of the year.  Did you know that the leaves of the Shamrock were actually supposed to stand for faith, hope, and love? If you are fortunate enough to find one of the rare shamrocks with a fourth leaf, that is where the luck of the shamrock came from. However, I am sure all of you know that St. Patrick also used the shamrock to explain the holy trinity of the father, the son, and the holy ghost to the of the pagan faith in Ireland.  So while so very tiny this little plant has a very famous and wonderful history.

Since this is essentially an Irish tale... I thought I would make this little lass true to the Irish nature and make her a beautiful red head. I don't know what it is about red hair but I just LOVE it! I actually got the inspiration for this red hair from a little girl named Brody that attends our church. She is so sweet and lively that it just seemed to me I had to use her as my inspiration.

You can see more of her red hair here, along with the details of the fantastic shamrocks that were drawn by the artist of theses stamps, Mitzi. If you have not yet experienced her stamps you NEED to be sure to head over to her shop! If you like this one you will be in for a treat! She has an Etsy shop and you can get them from her website as well.

You will see in the coming weeks that while making cards over the last week, that I have really fallen in love with this layout. I actually saw a card with this layout on Pinterest. Sadly I printed it out then without thinking I threw the paper away. Although, I believe it was Mindy from My Creative Scoop that did the card. The card was adorable, a little different for the image layouts.. but the general background of the card layout I used... kind of.. haha! But, it is so easy and simple that I just adore it!

To get the texture that I just love in this layout I used the Nested Circle w/piercing die cut set from Rubbernecker Stamps. Can you believe I actually pulled out the old paper crimper? I have not used that thing in YEARS! So happy that I kept it! The other thing you can see in the photo as well is the amazing paper that I decided to use. I found it a couple years ago at Hobby Lobby but I also found it on Amazon.com so I have put all the links for you below. I love using LinkDeli, even if you don't have an affiliate account, it will still let you put the links to make it easier for you to find. I LOVE IT!!! I have even linked the sequins I have down there for you as well. The only thing I couldn't find was the ribbon... I have no clue where I got that... sorry ...

You can't really tell but I did actually color her dress and her shoes. However, the G20 Waxed White is so light that it was really hard to capture it on the camera. If you look very closely you can see it lightly on her dress and in the center of the shamrock flowers, in this photo.  Yes, shamrocks have flowers! Who knew? I didn't! I have never seen them actually sprout any flowers before. Although, after some research with my kids, they do have white, pink, and even purple flowers. You learn something new every day!

The Copic Markers that I used for this cutie are:

  • Hair: YR21, R05, R46

  • Dress & Shamrocks: G20, 24, 28, YG23, 25

  • Skin: E000, 00, 04, 11, 21, R20

The links for a fantastic deal on these markers (and they have everything copic you could ever need) are down below. I do have to let you know however, they are NOT affiliate links. A sweet couple own the shop and I grew to know and love them... so I just like to send great people, to business with great people and customer support to help support their business.

  1. I LOVE your coloring of the Shamrock Sprite, Cristena! She looks absolutely perfect as a red head, too! The naturalistic colors on the shamrock leaves and flowers, and the matching outfit inspired by the colors of the plant is just brilliant. The limited palette approach for the whole project is wonderful in creating a clean, elegant look. Just love the green and white combo with the beautiful red hair 'punch'! Thank you so much for this beautiful inspiration for today's mid-challenge post for Sprite Delight V challenge at AWCB. Mitzi xxx

  2. EEEK! She's just a precious little red head and reminds me of a number of little kiddles that were part of the wedding festivities I attended this past weekend. Love the depth of color of the shamrocks too against the pale green of her dress and what a super layout. I may just have to "borrow" it myself one of these days. LOL Thanks for reminding me about the paper crimper. Really does add some fabulous texture to the design. Such an adorable card! xxD
